Recent works

A key figure from Wilcots et al. 2025, this polarization-dependent imaging contrast map shows crystal orientations in part of an Ediacaran ooids. Crystals are colored according to their orientation and the resulting map is a very colorful splay of mostly radially-oriented crystals.

This manuscript explores, at minute detail, the crystal orientations of exceptional ooids that preserve the onset of Earth's largest negative carbon isotope excursion. We argue that the size, shape, and orientation of dolomite crystals in these ooids is best explained by a primary* precipitation process, suggesting the onset of the Shuram excursion may have been associated with a rare set of environmental conditions.
